For first dates, Marketplace pickups and apartment viewings

Someone watching your back, right in iMessage.

An iMessage contact that watches your back when you meet a stranger. It checks in quietly and alerts the friend you chose if you go silent. Secret code words get you out. No app needed.

How it works

Three steps, all inside the Messages app you already use.

  1. Before you go

    Plan

Text Batman before a first date, a Marketplace pickup, or an apartment viewing. It asks a couple of quick questions.

  2. While you're there

    Quiet watch

Share your location for just that window. Batman stays silent while things look normal.

  3. Only if something's off

    Escalate

If something looks off it checks in. Go quiet and it alerts the friend you chose with your last location.

One night with Batman

  1. TuesdaySay hi. Batman asks who it can text if you need help.
  2. SaturdayText your plan. Batman reads it back so nothing is a guess.
  3. SaturdayOne quiet check-in. A short reply is all it needs.
  4. SaturdayYou're home. The plan closes and location sharing stops.
  1. iMessage
    Tuesday 6:12 PM
  2. Robin: Hi, I'm Robin
  3. Read 6:12 PM
  4. Batman: Hey Robin, I'm Batman. Text me before you meet someone new (a date, a Marketplace pickup, an apartment viewing) and I'll quietly look out for you.
  5. Batman: Quick setup, takes a minute. Who should I contact if you might need help? Send me their name and number, or share their contact card.
  6. Saturday 2:40 PM
  7. Robin: Date at 7 at Lula Cafe with Jordan
  8. Batman: Here's the plan: Date with Jordan, Sat 7:00 PM at Lula Cafe. Back by about 9:00 PM. If something seems off I'll text you, then text Alfred. Reply GO to lock it in, or tell me what to change.
  9. Robin: go (Batman liked this)
  10. Batman: Locked in. Around 6:30 I'll ask you to share your location until it's over.
  11. Saturday 7:45 PM
  12. Batman: Hey, everything good?
  13. Robin: yeah lol (Batman loved this)
  14. Saturday 9:04 PM
  15. Robin: home
  16. Batman: Glad you're back. Plan closed and your location's no longer shared with me.

Two code words, for when you can't say it out loud

You pick both during setup. They look like any other text, so you can send one with someone sitting right next to you.

Exit word

Get a reason to leave

Text it and Batman replies like a friend, then texts you an urgent "call me" so you have an excuse to leave.

  1. Robin: pineapple
  2. Batman: omg ok one sec
  3. Batman: Call me asap

Alert word

Get help without a scene

Text it and Batman quietly alerts your friend with your location. You get an innocent reply, nothing that gives it away.

  1. Robin: blueberry
  2. Batman: haha ok
  3. Meanwhile, Alfred gets a heads-up with your location.

"pineapple" and "blueberry" are examples. Choose words you would never text by accident.

Plain answers before you trust it

What Batman does, what it keeps, and where it stops.

  • Your friend says yes first

Batman texts the friend you pick and asks. Nothing is set up until they agree.

  • Location only during the plan

You share it for that window and nothing longer. It's deleted 24 hours after the plan ends.

  • It watches you, not them

Batman never looks up, tracks or messages the person you're meeting.

  • Batman is not 911

It never calls emergency services. If something is wrong, it tells your friend to call. If you're in danger right now, call 911 yourself.

  • It can fail

A dead phone, no signal or an outage can stop a check-in from getting through. Think of Batman as a backup, not a guarantee.

  • Adults only

Batman is for people 18 and older.
